Local group TU (Trout Unlimited) Teens of Gallipolis took a fly fishing trip to Tennessee to fly fish legendary waters from June 1 through June 4. The group camped during their stay. They first fished the Doe River on Roan Mt. Then they fished the South Holston River, and day three they fished both Laurel and Gentry Creeks in Tennessee near the Virginia border.
Students used their fly fishing skills honed throughout the year to outsmart the rainbow, brown, and brook trout. They fished “catch and release” only and always appreciate the fish and clean waters available.
The group had a cookout both Saturday and Sunday nights. So many kind people in the Tennessee area wanted to help the kids have a great experience.
Dr. Wilikins, who is the man responsible for cloning Dolly, offered his home on the river for the kids to fish. When they ate breakfast at the small local diner/gas station, all the locals offered praise and fishing advice.
The kids on the trip were Kyra Collins, Ava Hamilton, Havannah Grube, Kylie Cook, Hunter Cook, Kayden Justice, Matt Liberati, Owen Saunders, and Colin Watson.
Chaperones were Sandra and Shannon Mayes, Debi and Jamie Eggers, Jeff Creamer, and Nathan Justice.
Until the next adventure! Tight lines!
