Members of the Silver Bridge Bruisers will hold an informational meeting on Saturday regarding the formation of a Jr. Roller Derby League.

The meeting will take place at River City Fellowship Church, 252 3rd Avenue, Gallipolis on March 3 at 3 p.m. The league is open to children ages seven to 17 of any skill level.

Silver Bridge Bruisers coach Heather Blazer said she has wanted to start a Jr. League since the Bruisers were first formed but wanted to wait until the Bruisers were established first. As far as why they wanted to establish the Jr. League, Blazer said she believes roller derby is empowering for girls.

“As an adult, it’s empowering to me,” said Blazer. “So, for children, it would have to be empowering and give them confidence.”

Blazer added all of the coaches will have concussion and first aid training, as well as background checks prior to the league starting.
