Emergency crews responded to a stranded motorist who attempted to drive through high water on Ohio 7, between Ohio 218 and the City of Gallipolis, this afternoon. According to Gallipolis Fire Chief Keith Elliott, the vehicle was occupied by two adults and two children. Rescuers used ropes and waded out to rescue the occupants, who were reportedly unharmed. Signage indicating the road is closed due to high water is posted at the intersection of Ohio 218 and Ohio 7.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Gallia County Sheriff’s Office and Gallia County EMS also responded to the scene.
Chief Elliott reminds motorists to avoid driving through high water.
“It’s not worth risking your life,” said Elliott.
