In a recent post to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin called out those responsible for illegal dumping, stating they are currently investigating several dump sites throughout the county and filing charges as a result of those investigations.
As a result of one of those investigations, Lawrence D. Caldwell, 34, Frankfort, Ohio has been charged in the Gallipolis Municipal Court with open dumping in connection with illegal dump sites in Patriot.
According to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office Incident Report, Caldwell was identified after deputies allegedly discovered items attached to Caldwell inside several bags of trash dumped on Peniel Road and Dry Ridge Road. Caldwell allegedly admitted to dumping the items and complied with requests to retrieve the items dumped.
“It’s unfortunate that we have to expend the resources afforded to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office to hold people accountable for disposing of their waste on public and private properties throughout our beautiful county,” said Sheriff Champlin. “With that said, we will pursue these investigations and prosecute these violators as we do any other criminal offender. We have recently applied for a grant through the Ohio E.P.A. for equipment and technology to strengthen our ability to investigate these types of crimes.”
