Velva Mae Underwood, 98, Gallipolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family at 6:00 P.M. Friday, February 2, 2018 in the Holzer Senior Care Center.

Velva was a very special lady who touched many lives through mailing cards and through hours of phone conversations she had with her many friends. She served the Lord faithfully for the last 85 years after being saved and baptized at the age of 13.

Velva was born March 31, 1919 in Cheshire, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jenkin and Etta Schular Evans. She married Darius L. Underwood on December 24, 1947 in Cheshire and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2005. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister and a great-granddaughtrer, Kaylee Long, in 2014  whom she loved dearly.

Velva is survived by her daughter, Catharine (Larry) Long, of Gallipolis, grandchildren, Lisa (John) Kearns, Lori (Ken) Owens and Larry (Angie) Long II, great-grandchildren, Derek Hogan, of Charleston, W. Va., Cassandra (Andre) Walker, Kenzie Long, Caleb Owens, Josh Long, Luke Owens and a great-great grandson, Connor Utt, all of Gallipolis. Many countless other relatives and special friends also survive.

Family and friends may call from 6 – 8 P.M. Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Cremeens-King Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Leland Allman officiating. Interment will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire.

Active casket bearers will be Larry Long II, Derek Hogan, John Kearns, Ken Owens, Andre Walker and Tony Ireland. Honorary casket bearers will be her great-grandsons, Caleb Owens, Josh Long and Luke Owens.

Velva’s care has been entrusted to the Cremeens-King Funeral Home of Gallipolis.
