Zach Loveday, 7-1 sophomore center, led Gallia Academy High School’s Blue Devils to a 68-49 Ohio Valley Conference triumph over visiting South Point in the Centenary Gym Friday night by scoring a career high 37 points on the Pointers.

The triumph left Gallipolis 15-2 on the year and 9-2 in OVL play.

Gallipolis led all the way in the contest other than a 2-2 tie at the start of the game.

Loveday scored 17 of his points in the first period as Gallipolis took a 19-7 lead. The Blue Devils led 30-20 at halftime and 44-32 going into the fourth period.

Gallipolis will host defending OVL champion Fairland on Tuesday, Feb. 6. The Dragons own a 38-game winning streak in the OVL during the past two and one-half years, including a 97-50 win over Gallipolis back on Dec. 19.

Besides Loveday’s 37 points, sophomore Logan Blouir finished with nine points.

For the Pointers, TayShaun Fox had 23 points and Chance Gunther nine.

Gallipolis sank 27 field goals (24 twos and three 3s.) South point made 18 field goals (16 twos and two 3s). Gallipolis was 11 of 17 at the foul line and South Point 11 of 13.

In a thrilling JV game, the GAHS Blue Imps held a 61-60 victory over the Little Pointers.

Gallipolis held a 10-point lead going into the final period before the Pointers finished strong before losing. South Point outscored the Gallians 21-13 in the fourth period.

Gallipolis trailed 19-18 after one period, but led 28-26 at halftime. GAHS led 42-39 going into the final quarter.

The win left GAHS 10-2 in OVC play and 14-3 on the year. South Point dropped to 6-5 in OVL play.
