Host Gallia Academy High School led all the way in Friday night’s 59-37 Ohio Valley Conference basketball win over visiting Coal Grove on the Centenary Court.

The Blue Devils jumped out in front 11 –  2 after one period, holding the Hornets to two free throws, GAHS outscored the Hornets 16-15 in the second period to take a 27-17 halftime advantage. After three periods, Gallipolis led 42-26.

Gallipolis improved to 7-1 on the year and 3-1 in OVL play. Coal Grove fell to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in league action.

Zach Loveday, 7-1 sophomore center led GAHS with 18 points. Loveday missed a triple double by one rebound in the GAHS victory.

Kevin Wiseman added 15 for GAHS and Caleb Henry 11. For Coal Grove, Austin Music finished with 14 points. Payton Smith had seven points. At the foul line Friday, GAHS was 5 of 12. Coal Grove was 13 of 18 at the line.

Gallipolis was to play a non-league game at Pt. Pleasant Saturday night. Coal Grove’s next game is at Rock Hill Tuesday.

In Friday’s JV game, Gallipolis beat the Little Hornets 56-45 for the sixth win against two losses. In OVL play, the Blue Imps improved 3-1.

Gallipolis led 16-8, 27-18 and 43-30 at the quarter marks. Ben Cox led GAHS with 14 points. Ken Gannett led Coal Grove with 15 points.
