Host Gallipolis Gallia Academy jumped out in front during the first five minutes of play and went on to hand Bidwell River Valley a 68-28 non-league basketball defeat in the Centenary gym Friday night before a good-sized crowd.

Gallipolis improved to 6-1 on the year and will be idle until Jan. 5 when the Gallians resume action in the Ohio Valley Conference at home against Coal Grove.

River Valley will play at South Point in its next cage game on Dec. 29.

Gallipolis never trailed in the contest. The Blue Devils led 10-3 after one period, 31-12 at halftime and 49-16 after three periods.

Kaden Thomas and Cory Call paced Gallipolis with 13 points apiece. Zach Loveday added 17, Justin McClelland had eight, and Kevin Wiseman seven.

For RVHS, Jarret McCarty and Layne Fitch were high point men

with six points each. Chase Caldwell added five.

Gallipolis was 0-0 from the foul line and River Valley was 0-2 at the charity stripe.

Prior to the varsity game, GAHS baseball coach Ritchie Corwin introduced several members of Gallipolis’ four straight SEOAL baseball title winning teams from the 2011,12,13 and 14 seasons

In Friday’s JV contest, the GAHS Blue Imps downed River Valley’s reserves 76-29 for the sixth win in eight games. River Valley dropped to 2-7 on the year.

For Gallipolis, Bailey Walker was high man with 15 points. Brian Cox led RVHS with 12 points.

Gallipolis led 8-3, 33-12 and 56-20 at the quartermarks.
