Despite slow down tactics by visiting Ironton, Gallipolis Gallia Academy posted a 70-46 Ohio Valley Conference hardwood victory over the Fighting Tigers in Centenary Friday night to remain unbeaten in five games. Ironton dropped to 1-3 on the year.

Inside the OVC, Gallipolis Improved to 2-0 while IHS dropped to 0-2.

Gallipolis and defending champion Fairland are tied for first place in the OVC with 2-0 marks. The Dragons knocked off Coal Grove 67-36 Friday night to improve their season record to 4-0. The two teams will meet at Fairland on Dec. 19 in their next outing.

At Gallipolis Friday, the Blue Devils led 15-8, 22-17 and 46-25 at the quartermarks. Gallipolis outscored the Tigers 24-21 in the final period as Coach Gary Harrison flooded the floor with subs.

For Gallipolis, Zach Loveday led the Blue Devils with 19 points. Justin McClelland added 11 and Cory Call 10. For Ironton, Ethan Wilson led all scorers with 24 points. Kyle Adkins added 11.

In the first half, Ironton hit two buzzer beater threes at the end of the first and second quarters to keep the game close.

However, Gallipolis defenders held the Lawrence Countians score less until 1:59 left in the quarter and upped their lead from 22-17 to 35-17. Gallipolis led 53-27 with 6:04 left to play, and 61-39 with 2:03 remaining.

In the JV game, Gallipolis defeated the Ironboys 59-36 for their fourth win in five games.

Gallipolis led 18-6, 28-14, and 43-22 at the quartermarks.

High for Gallipolis was own Duncan with 11 points.
