During the regular meeting of the Gallia County Commissioners today, Chester “Mike” Polcyn, known to many in the community simply as Santa, was recognized for his service. Gallia County Commission President Harold Montgomery read the proclamation during the meeting and presented Mr. Polcyn with a Gallia County flag. The proclamation recognized Mr. Polcyn for his service as Santa Claus for over 40 years, as well as his service as a Gallia County Local School Board member from 2000 to 2011.

“Whereas Mr. Polcyn, through these commitments, has contributed greatly to the wellbeing of the children in Gallia County, as well as the strengthening of families and overall community,” read Montgomery. “Whereas Mr. Polcyn successfully instilled the magic of Christmas in hearts of Gallia County youth and adults alike. Whereas Mr. Polcyn’s dedication has served as a sincere example of holiday giving for the betterment of Gallia County.”

Following the proclamation several people shared personal stories with Mr. Polcyn about the impact he had on them and their families. His wife Karen, and other family members, were also in attendence.

The recognition of Mr. Polcyn was initiated by the Gallipolis Junior Women’s Club, who have worked closely with him over the years, as a way to recognize and thank him for his service.
