Host Gallipolis Gallia Academy defeated visiting Athens 55-32 in Friday night’s 2017-18 hardwood opener in Centenary.

The Blue Devils led 15-7, 29-15 and 41-26 at the quartermarks. Gallipolis led by Zack Loveday’s 24 points. Cory Call added 12. Loveday had numerous rebounds, blocked shots and several assists.

Dalton Cozart led Athens with 6 points.

In the reserve game, Athens Bullpups outscored the Blue Imps 23-6 during the final five minutes of play to post a come-from-behind 55-50 triumph.

Athens led 16-10 after one period. GAHS led 32-28 at halftime and at one point, led 44-32 before the Bullpups big comeback.

High for GAHS was Ben Cox with 10 points. High for Athens was led by Braden Markins with 13 points.

In the freshman contest, Gallipolis’ yearlings won, 26- 19. GAHS led 6-5, 10-7 and 18-14 after three periods.

High for Gallipolis was Michal Beasy with nine points. High for Athens was Will Masters with eight points.

Gallipolis will host Meigs on Tuesday in a non-league game. Athens played a non-league game Saturday night in Columbus.
