The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather warning for multiple counties in Ohio and West Virginia, including Gallia County.

As of 9:12 a.m. this morning, the Red Flag Warning was in effect until 8 p.m. for gusty winds and low relative humidity.

* Winds…Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Timing…Noon today through 8 p.m.

* Relative Humidity…as low as 22 percent.

* Temperatures…in the upper 70s to near 80.

* Impacts…Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Outdoor burning is not recommended.


A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Elevated fire danger today…

The combination of above normal temperatures, dry fuels, low relative humidity, and gusty winds, will create an enhanced fire danger threat this afternoon and evening once again.

Open burning of any type is considered extremely dangerous at this time. Be careful of any heat and sparks while operating any equipment or smoking in wildland areas.
